Bottom-of-the-pile Waltham Forest are still winless in the Essex Senior League after suffering their 11th loss from 12 games, 2-1 against Ilford on Saturday.

Forest goalkeeper William Hunt – having recovered from injury – was called into action early on to deny Chris Stevens for the visitors.

Danny Tulloch had a good chance for hosts Forest but shot straight at the visiting goalkeeper before the visitors broke up the other end only to see Hunt deny them again.

However, the Foxes could not be resisted forever and took the lead when Stevens left the Stags' defence behind and slotted beyond Hunt.

Mo Mahmoud might have drawn Forest level soon after but was thwarted by the Ilford goalkeeper Ally McAnally.

But, out of the blue, Waltham Forest drew level in stunning fashion. The goal, which will surely be a contender for Goal of the Season, arrived when Kubilay Akbayrak let fly from fully 40 yards, the ball arrowing into the top corner of the visitors' net.

However, the home side could not build on their equaliser. And Ilford snatched a second-half winner when Carl Mullings rolled home after keeper Hunt came out to clear but missed the ball.

Ilford squandered numerous further chances but leave Forest second bottom with yet another defeat.

Wadham Lodge were not in action at the weekend but host Sporting Bengal United on Wednesday.

Waltham Forest go to bottom side Enfield 1893 on Saturday.
