BOXING
NEWHAM Boys Club had a mixed bag of results at an open show held at East Ham Working Men's on Thursday.
Luke Copping, 15, won on points against schoolboy finalist Tyson Price, of the Repton Club. Copping had lost his three previous match ups with Price.
But Chris Smith, 14, lost on a contorversial points split decision to Frank Smith, of Halsham, while Aiden Pleydell also lost on a points split decision to John Mcfadden, of Dale Youth.
Coach Jo Chapman said: "All the boys fought really well. Luke showed a big improvement against Tyson Price.
"Both the other fights were really close. I was very surprised with the decision for Chris because I thought he had definately done enough to win it, as did most people."
