WALTHAM Forest-based members of the North London Shotokan Kata brought home five medals from the International Karate Open at Dagenham.

Over 400 competitors took part from England, Malta and Georgia but the club still came away with two silver and three bronze medals.

Jane De Bono took silver in the women's Kata over-16s novice to fourth kyu category, while Natasha De Bono competed in the women's Kata over-16s third kyu to dan grade category. She performed a good display of Bassai-Dai and took bronze.

Christine McNeill took home two bronzes after competing in both the veteran's Kata category and the women's Kumite. But Peter Katsis narrowly missed out on a medal by 0.3 of a mark in the veteran's Kata category.

Ellen Welsh took home a silver in the girls' Kumite novice to sixth kyu category.

Other members of the squad who took part were Ferhat and Serkan Seferoglu, Jack Welsh, Jamie McNeill and Alex Cadwallender.
