East London 5
Bancroft 17
(Essex One)

MID-table Bancroft travelled to bottom of the table East London and emerged with the points.

The Hillside Avenue outfit absorbed early pressure, and their resilience was rewarded on 12 minutes when Michael Horne intercepted a loose pass and he sprinted across open ground for the first try.

Farrow sent the subsequent conversion sailing over for maximum points.

This early success ushered a period of good play and half chances as East London's attacks disintegrated. Farrow just failed to get enough power on a long-distance penalty, although he was to add one before the break to make it 0-10 at the interval.

The second period was not the easy ride Bancroft had expected, as the E's re-grouped and shortly scored an unconverted try. A period in the sin-bin for Dan Jones created more worries for the visitors.

But this time they held firm and their opponents were unable to capitalise on their numerical advantage and trouble the score board further.

And with five minutes left Chris Grant managed to cross the try line for five points, and Farrow stepped up to add two more with his boot.

Another late effort was ruled out, although by then Bancroft had done enough to secure a win that moved them up to fifth place in the table.
