Writtle Wanderers 3
(Essex One)

ILFORD Wanderers maintained their unbeaten streak in the Essex One with a convincing victory over Writtle Wanderers.

The teams clashed at Ilford's ground, after a double booking of pitches at Writtle saw them relinquish the home advantage.

In the first half Kemp Nel went over for Ilford, and David North scored the subsequent conversion.

North also added two penalties to open up a 13-3 lead by half time as the visitors scored their only points of the afternoon via a penalty.

In the second half John Dillion crossed the line for another five points, and North stepped up and added the extras again.

The try of the game was however scored by Franco Ferreira. He collected the ball inside his own 22 and embarked upon a run which took him into Writtle's 22. A swift pass to David Bailey kept the attack alive, he then returned the ball to Ferreira to score a memorable five points.

Ilford boss Brian Scahill praised his forwards. He said: "They totally dominated the game, although the whole match went very well.

"Writtle battled well and made it hard for us. We struggled mid game and got into a rut where we could not score points. The backs struggled with the ball but we'll sort that out."

Scahill was also impressed with Ferreira's solo effort. He said: "It was a great try, and a brilliant individual effort."

With another local derby against Bancroft next week, the Wanderers' coach feels his side has what it takes to keep their unbeaten record.

He said: "If the forwards can dominate like they have done, we can come away with two points."
