(London Two North)

CHINGFORD demolished their Essex opponents with a high scoring display and stout defending.

Thurrock were looking to improve on a poor league start, but left with their tails between their legs on the back of a pasting from the table-topping hosts.

Tobias de Klerk opened the scoring on ten minutes, kicking a penalty and opening his account for the day.

This sparked Thurrock into life, and in the proceeding ten minutes Chingford were forced onto the back foot as their opponents set up camp close to their try line.

But resolute defending paid dividends and the hosts turned up the heat. But some sloppy passing meant try-scoring opportunities went begging and the score board stayed static, until Neil Carlsson stepped up and tucked away a drop goal.

De Klerk added more points with another two penalties, and then zipped acoss the try line for an unconverted try. This bombardment meant Chingford left the pitch at half time with a 17-0 advantage.

The second half ushered in more of the same.

Matthew Lockwood took a quick tap penalty and went across the line right under Thurrock's noses. De Klerk successfully completed the subsequent conversion.

Substitute Stephen Piper crashed over the try line to add five more points.

The final try came after good pack work allowed Guy Gavan to score a push over score, with De Klerk's boot providing two more points.

Delighted coach Steve Frost said: "It was a workman like performance.

"The discipline was awesome as we only gave away three penalties throughout the whole game despite what was going on.

"Jeremy Walmsley had an excellent debut. Next week will be a totally different sort of match against local rivals Woodford.

"They managed to beat us last year at their place, so we hope to turn that result around with a win."
