TOTTENHAM look to have been given the green light to sign Emile Heskey in January after Wigan chairman Dave Whealen admitted he would not stand in the striker's way if the right offer came in.

England man Heskey was a £10 million target for Spurs on transfer deadline day, although he pledged himself to the Latics.

But Whealan has added to the mounting speculation over the 30-year-old's future by revealing that, if Heskey demands a move, he would be allowed to leave the JJB Stadium if a decent bid is slapped on the table.

"We don’t want Emile to go, but football is football," Whealan was quoted as saying in The People.

"If somebody pays enough money and Emile wants to go we would never try to keep a player.

"We don’t want him to leave and he’s happy here, but if anything develops Emile will have the final say."
