ILFORD Golf Club progressed to the second round of the Thornton Cup with a hard-fought 9-6 win over Basildon.
The team will now have a tough away match against either Thorpe Hall or Warley Park.
Meanwhile, the W & E Smith Trophy mixed competition was contested on Monday, with Leroy Townsend and Sofia Christiansen emerging victorious, with a total of 42 points.
