BUCKHURST HILL bowls club started their Simon Shield campaign with a narrow 5-3 victory over Wadham.
Roy Davies, Glenn Stephens, Richard Rood & Malcolm Lord triumphed 20-12, and Peter Tuff, John Burdikin, Ray Ascott & Roger Pike drew 18-18.
In the Thursday Fours the season started badly, as the A team succumbed 20-10 to Epping.
The B team went down 21-24 to Loughton, while the D team of John Pugh, Barry Clark-Ward, Stuart White & Malcolm Lord beat the C team 20-16. The E team lost 17-18 to Victoria Park.
The team also beat Harlow 6-4 in a friendly.
