CHIGWELL school pupil Emma Hollis produced a series of inspired performances to emerge from the European Paralympic Swimming Championships in Reyjkavik, Iceland with a silver and three bronze medals.

The 17-year-old Epping Forest club swimmer proved that she will be one to keep an eye on when the Paralympic Games come to London in 2012, after delivering on the grandest stage last month.

The standout performance at the Championships arrived in the 100m breaststroke, as she smashed the British record for the distance, knocking a huge two seconds off her personal best.

The silver medal she won during that race was the first of an impressive haul.

Hollis was clearly relishing her moment in the spotlight, and she racked up three more PBs when she claimed third place in the 100m butterfly, 100m freestyle and 100m individual medley.

Hollis was one of 250 young sportsmen and women chosen for funding and expert coaching from the likes of five-time Olympian Mark Foster as part of the Lloyds TSB Local Heroes initiative.

A member of the British Swimming Development Squad, Hollis was tipped for the top by Foster, who was Great Britain’s flag-bearer at the Beijing Olympics last year.

He said: “Emma has shown great potential and it is obvious she is incredibly talented.”
