Epping Upper Clapton sit bottom of London 2 North East and remain without a win all season after suffering their fifth straight defeat in a 30-22 reverse away at Wanstead.
Tries from Bobby Grace, Jordan Watson and Luke Neat weren’t enough as the hosts secured their first win of the season while also denying Clapton a losing bonus point.
The early signs were good for Clapton as Grace crossed from a scrum close to the Wanstead line after only five minutes.
Two quick try concessions turned the game in Wanstead’s favour, but a powerful run from Watson saw him level the game at 12-12 at half-time.
Substitute Neat added to Clapton’s score, as did a penalty, but a further try from Wanstead had them ahead going into the final quarter.
And it was in that latter stage that they pulled away as two tries and a penalty denied Clapton the bonus point.
Epping will be hopeful of securing their first win this Saturday when they make the trip to Holt, the only other side in the division without a win.
