West Ham United have announced today that free agent Carlton Cole is undergoing a medical at their training ground with a view to rejoining the team on a short-term deal.

The striker spent seven seasons with the Hammers netting 47 times in 141 league appearances before departing in the summer.

However, the England international only scored twice in all competitions last season and found himself falling down the pecking order behind the likes of Andy Carroll and Ricardo Vaz Te.

After failing to find another club but still eager to continue playing football, and Carroll still out injured, the 29-year-old has opted to return to the London club.
