New West Ham United signing Dmitri Payet was delighted with his debut after the side's 3-2 win over Southend United.
The French midfielder, who joined from Marseille earlier this summer, scored twice on his debut for West Ham on Saturday in their pre-season friendly win over Southend.
His first was a brilliant free-kick which he curled past Dan Bentley in the Southend goal, after Martin Samuelson drew a foul on the edge of the Shrimper’s box.
Payet’s second was a superb individual goal, as he picked up a loose ball and fired past the despairing dive of Bentley.
Speaking to the West Ham website after the game, Payet said: “I’m very happy to score two goals on my debut.
“I enjoyed playing with Diafra (Sakho) and all my new teammates. We are not as sharp as we can be, but we will improve. I think we can be very good."
On the subject of his fitness for the upcoming season, Payet said: “I don’t think I’m far away from being fully fit but it depends on how many games I play. I want to play as much as possible.”
