WEST HAM boss Alan Curbishley has lavished praise on Robert Green following the keeper's penalty heroics against Blackburn.

The Hammers were holding on to a slim 2-1 lead when Rovers were awarded a penalty just after half time at Upton Park.

But Green came to the rescue with a low diving save to keep out Jason Roberts' spot kick. West Ham then went on to win 4-1.

However, Green - whose all round performance against Rovers also noted merit - is again expected to be overlooked by Fabio Capello when the England boss picks his squad tonight.

But his penalty save not only maintained his reputation as a penalty save king, but also earned the backing of Curbishley that he should be handed an international recall.

"All Rob can do is keep playing as he is," Curbishley told Sky Sports.

"Week-in week-out he puts his performances in and often they go unnoticed.

"I've said it to him before that sometimes he will stand out a little more and that happened today.

"Apart from the penalty save he was putting crosses under pressure and we know his performances should give him an England call-up."
