His carer and driver Lennard Ballack was also sprayed in the face with ammonia and beaten with a pole, leaving him by the side of the road.

In a videoed interview played to the court he told a detective: He said: "He looked over at me with his can and he squirted me and my face. My skin burned.

"He looked at me and smiled. An evil smile on his face when he squirted me."

"I'm outside the car being dragged with the seatbelt holding me. I couldn't believe it, I thought 'what a nightmare'."

His hand became caught in the seatbelt when he tried to get out of the car as one of the robbers jumped into the driver's seat and 'put his foot down'.

Mr Watson told a detective in the video played to Snaresbrook Crown Court: "I used to be a former Commonwealth championship boxer. I fought in the world championship event in 1991 where I had my incident.

"I can remember driving down the road with Lennard - my friend and carer.

"We had slowed down and all of a sudden it went bang, someone hit the back of the boot.

"Lennard said 'I will get out' so he got out the car.

"It happened so quickly. He went to the back and took about five minutes. When he came back he opened the door he didn't get a chance to sit in the car before he was attacked by two men.

"He got hit on the back, he turned around. They squirted him and he went 'argh' and screamed out.

"I thought 'I dont know what I'm going to do, I got to get out'.

"I tried to get out and he put his foot down I flew out the car and the seatbelt got caught on my arm.

"I was being dragged on the floor.

"I'm outside the car being dragged with the seatbelt holding me. I couldn't believe it, I thought what a nightmare."

The former boxer, who suffered a brain injury during a fight with Chris Eubank in 1991 was at times unable to remember details of where he had been when the attack happened.

The trial continues.
